Independent Foreign Fiction Prize 2009

Britanski list Independent pokrenuo je prije dva desetljeća nagradu Independent Foreign Fiction Prize ne bi li promovirao naslove i pisce koji u sveutjecajnu anglosferu ulaze preko prevoditelja. Neravnopravnost između anglofonih književnosti i onih koje to nisu sve je veća na globalnom tržištu knjiga. Independentova nagrada upućuje čitatelje na vrijedna ostvarenja "autsajderskih" književnosti. Novčana nagrada dodjeljuje se i autoru i prevoditelju u istom iznosu; u konkurenciju ulaze naslovi objavljeni u Velikoj Britaniji godinu prije. Pod "oširnije" pogledajte listu kandidata koja je objavljena početkom ove godine, kao i kratki komparativni pregled prisutnosti tih autora kod nas i kod naših susjeda. Ove godine nagrada je bila u znaku kolumbijskih finalista Evelia Rosera i Juana Gabriela Vásqueza. Rosero i njegova prevoditeljica Anne McLein dobili su nagradu početkom svibnja za prijevod The Armies (Los Ejércitos, 2006). Roman se bavi građanskim ratom u Kolumbiji.
